text: Got up at 6, finished packing jahpa. Coolies came at 7.30, Colonel Taylor arrived a few minutes later. Shumshu came out of back premises at last minute, minus jahpa. Taxed, said he had private arrangement with coolie who would take S's bedding loose so fifth coolie only had others bedding & my camp-bed, which refused to go into the bedding-jahpa. Left at 2.45 in Fergus's car, with Shumshu in back. Left my socks behind & Marguerite & Ranald came haring after with them. Long, dusty drive to Yanganpokpi, and very tight fit in front seat. Road vile, & Fergus found petrol-tank lid missing when he arrived. (5) Tea at bungalow; and then Fergus & Lex went off 14 miles back. Only 2 rooms in bungalow, so dined & sat in my bedroom. Sanitation by long drop, v. interesting.
