text: Dec. 5th. Sunday
text: Marched 9.30, after taking one or two pictures.
text: Heard 6 or 7 different coolie chants as we went up the hill. Reached shoulder of hill (4000 feet or so) & were met by lumbu with 3 bottles of beer from Shaw. Fell on them & had tiffin on corner. Walked on 2 or 3 miles, much of it downhill again (!) into Tamenglong.
text: Met Shaw about 1/2 mile out & went to tea at his bungalow. Found he had been expecting us to lunch. Tea, went out to "bandstand", a view-point cum summer house built by punishment labour. Then down to bungalow. Reggie Shaw came to drinks and we were smoked out by fire. Finally had to put it out. Glorious sunset; colours on hills superb.
text: (43) Dec. 6th. Monday.
text: Halted at Tamenglong. Did plenty of washing and hung out all bedding to dry. Went down to canteen & bought 2 tins of sardines. Reggie Shaw came to dinner. We had tea by fire in open, after lunching with Shaw & sitting all afternoon in bandstand. Shaw came to dinner.
