text: Halted at Jhirighat. Jeff out inspecting in morning; we wrote home letters and hoped for coolies. If coolies (sent from Tamenglong area) arrived next day, we should have extra day at Barak Bridge. Wrote to Mummy, Humps, Hodson, Duncan. Discovered dark spot, first seen on boat and believed cleaned off, still on f2 lens. At dusk overseers arrived with two coolies, apparently Kabui, but no breed we knew; stocky, solid, jungli, quite light-skinned. Severe shortage of japhas, owing to Ranald not sending quota. Jeff mixed me another whisky, but no hiccups. Re-packed jappas, getting 3 into 2.
