text: Held last dispensary and gave away everything I had left. The baby was better again, and still quiet. Went down village and did a little more work, but found Atomba outside his house, looking very sick and complaining of what sounded like pleurisy. Gave him my cashmere sweater, about all I could do; Vapex went days ago. Rather worried about him, and whether I should try and take him to Imphal. Made periodic enquiries during day, but was told he was sleeping or 'getting better'. Gichung was by the fire all evening, and showing no signs of being worried; not only did he sew a side-seam of my 'sampler' jumper during the day, but spent most of the evening looking at the pictures in The Angamis, and reading the page numbers - English figures into Manipuri words, with signs to me to know if he was right.
