text: Was told that boy had died during night - not one of my patients, so they swore, but one of the dancers the other day. They said he looked like Gichung. Chirus carried for me. Saw men gathered outside house splitting pia. Pig shrieking blue murder somewhere. Didn't like to ask questions, as it was rather personal, but let anthropological chance go for the sake of tact and good manners.
text: Chirus carried well (8 men), found lorry at Bishenpur and sent my kit and staff off in it while I waited at bungalow for Jeff, who was said to be a Moirang. It was cold, so I put on by buck's cloth, and there he found me an hour later. Very sorry to leave Kakadan; but it was nice to find a well-run bungalow instead of my wildly jungli establishment! Atomba still said to be 'getting better'. Hope to God he is. Met several Kabuis on the road to Kakadan, mostly elders, and all carrying spears - most unusual. One party of young men were towing a goat.
