text: (152) Saturday, Feb. 19th. Chingjaroi.
text: Have I really been out nearly a week? Doesn't seem possible. Went down to the village again in a.m. Gosh, they are a jungli lot. Can't keep the children off the matting or any of them out of the basha. Had a perfectly good grandpapa just walking in on me this afternoon. I shushed him out politely, and he went.
text: Morning opened with tea tasting of Sunlight soap, so I wasn't surprised to hear that Luikai had been up at crack of dawn and 'had washed every limb, so now he is quite clean'. (Compounder, verbatim). He is now the colour of well polished copper, and easily the cleanest Naga for miles. Very pleased with his cloth, and beamed when I asked him if it was all right. Said it was 'bahut achha'. Looks very handsome, anyway. Puerpural fever patient seems better. Compounder gave another injection. We are not out of Santonin.
text: Christians turned up. Have promised to go there tomorrow, also to Chingjaroi Khunao. Was kept awake by people coughing. Heart rung with pity for Abung and/or Luikai, but it proved to be Kukis camped outside (153) cookhouse.
text: Collected Luikai in p.m. and went round to take photos. Really to get away from eternal crowd. Headmen followed, so took their photos, also Luikai's.
text: Had to show my photos again afterwards, and then girls sang. Luikai half-frozen during jump, so gave him two bottles of zu; which he gazed at blankly and, after encouragement, removed. He turned up for the singing, quite chirpy and apparently thawed, and managed to find the Akbar Shahs in double quick time - more than the Wombat could do.
text: Feel very tired and cold, and wish the Wombat would buck up with my bottle. I want to go to bed.
