text: Heard baby had died; no surprise, again. Went on usual rounds, and at top of hill Jangsang sprang it on me he wanted to go to Imphal the next day. Blow, but we do need more medicines, and there's nothing to be done but put a bold face on it and sort it out somehow. Two babies ill in Khunao, one diarrhoea and one fever. Called on all patients, dispensed medicines, and so home. Found stores short, so added list to letters, etc. for compounder to take down. Reckoned on 6 days without him, but in evening locals came to say it was 3 days to Maram and 4 or 5 back to Jessami via Mao. No help for it. Wrote letters, lists, indents, etc. Wrote to Jeff, Paddy and Humps, and official letter for Jangsang to take to C.S.
text: Another joy; Saknio not expected till 11 tomorrow instead of 6 tonight; so Jangsang wants to wait for dak. If it comes before 11 tomorrow he will leave.
text: In p.m. operated on sinus in woman's leg. She clutched me, I clasped her, and friend (18) patted her on the back. Messy, painful business. I shall have to do the next dressing.
