A thunderstorm and gale in the night; I thought the roof would come off. Marched about 7.30, by Naga path, with headmen. Last night's plaintiff not present. Rain began after 5 miles, and we all arrived soaked., Luikai with his cloth over his head and looking like Little Red Ridinghood. A good basha; had a fire lit, & dried my clothes; Luikai tried to wear his razai as a cloth so I gave him the Chingjaroi Xtian "salaami" and he looks extraordinarily smart in it. Next news, Chinaorang has fever and his leg is bad. Issued quinine. Slept in p.m. Cold wind and pelting rain. Elders called, pagan & Xtian. |
