dance and spear throwing at Asalu; Namkia of Impoi joins staff |

Went down to village in a.m. & saw dance |

We were so long with the dance, etc. that we got no dispensary done in the morung, & so returned about 5 p.m. Principal victim was Hainingba's brother, with one sore on the left lower leg, & one on the inside of the top of the groin. Very awkward! He covered what mattered most with a fold of his cloth, but there was only about an inch clearance. He was quite (7) black with caked dirt. After disinfecting the sore (my job) Booth took him behind the morung and gave him a forcible bath, effecting an immense improvement. Then I had to put on a spica for the groin in the middle of the village street, amid laughter from the crowd and pathetic efforts of the victim to keep one hand and a bit of cloth over himself. |

Gailung (long, would be handsome, but sags at the knees and has less gumption than a dead eel) was sent home, & his red cloth given to Namkia of Impao, ex-dobashi, now attached to my staff. |
