Breakfasted, and left. First stop, Impao. Reception committee on road, zu at Namkia's house in village. He collected his belongings; Masang did a spirited war-dance with another man & a borrowed shield; saw ancient stone roughly carved to shape of elephant. Impao old site, Soppitt's Empeo. Village moved to Asalu, and recently split, a party returning to the traditional site, where there had obviously been a big village at one time. Photographed boy who might almost be of African strain; must get his pedigree. Considerable curly-haired, dark-skinned streak here; Namkia straight-haired, typical Naga. Matai "Golliwog" shock of curly hair, very dark, stocky. |

Drinks round fire in evening. Booth questioning Masang about his adventures with Gaideliu. Masang's face took on a wary look at the first word. He was very careful what he said. There is that in Masang's past he would prefer to keep to himself! (Note: Possibly there is! Haido, arrested for murder at Lakema, declared Masang was one of the 14 implicated. Masang denies it; so far no evidence against him.) |
