back to Thapa after seeing Booth |
text: |
Hainingba reported to Booth that the young men of Thapa said they wanted to spear him, and Booth sent word via the babu from Thapa that this was not the done thing! On arrival by rail at Daothahaja we found all Thapa present, with hens. There was no room for them to prostrate themselves by the side of the track, but they would have done if there had been. Booth must have put the fear of God into them. There were no howls about baggage; everything was whisked up and carried off in style; and it was all: "Yes, Madam! Please, Madam! Oh, certainly!" All dangerous elements were rigidly excluded from camp; only seniors and those below spear-using age were allowed near us. |
