text: Marched about one and a half miles on path and then about 3/4 along railway track and over bridges where you looked down about 50 feet between the sleepers, on which one had to step. Thapa coolies jibbed at -/4/- each and 1/-/- baksheesh for 2 miles and there was an argybargy. Gentleman came and asked me to dress his wife's sore hand. I suggested it would be nice for him to trot her up two stations to hospital, but no, "he would wait and see if it got better". Luikai and Hainingba had a fresh row, conducted in sotto voce, as I was sitting on the office's only chair near them. I turned round and asked what was the matter, but: "Oh! it's just an argument with the babu over the change!"
