A man going on the warpath fastens one cloth round him like a coat, and two, roughly folded, round his waist and abdomen, as protection against blows. His dao he carried as usual, on the right buttock; his shield is slung by a string passing over his right shoulder, and is held by the left hand a little away from the body; if held too close, a thrust may go through it into the man. He stands with the shield in front and left foot forward, covering as much of himself as he can, and peering out round the right edge. |
