text: Butler was down early to meet us & found me trying the fly on the pool below the camp. Walked up the whole way. Road very fair, rock [suralite] sandstone with a SE'ly dip. [Indented] clays occur in it here & there. We were not lucky in our day for it was terribly misty until the evening then it cleared towards the high ranges but a dense mass of mist crossed all the lower ground & lay like carded wool perfectly laid over all. But the rain at sunset was very fine. I took a walk with Capt Butler round the station & got in just after dark. Dinner with him, our tents being pitched in compound.
