text: Xmas Day.
text: Broke with a gleam of sun but then cloud soon rose & shut everything out. Butler wanted levels taken at his reservoir for water in a ravine below the station, so with Mr Ogle I went down. Butler also took the theod & laid out with pegs the level from the band that the water would rise to & enable him to cut a surplus exit for the water during heavy rain. Not much rest during day at work until the evening. We sat down to dinner, Butler, James of the Police, Ogle & myself. I drank to the health of all dear friends at home & silently thought of such in turn. After dinner we had a game of whist & some hot grog & thus passed away another Xmas in India.
