The 16th broke pretty clear. (23) Had plenty of work all the morning writing letters & taking out means of angles observed on Japvo &c. Report brought in that one of the Kooki scouts had been murdered & his gun taken near Kerophimah. A question arose abt the number of villages called by the Munipuris the Mao group & by us the Sophomah. The Munipuris do not recognize the Naga names of these villages, but have fanciful ones of the their own & this causes everlasting confusion so I proposed to extend my inch Boundary Survey & bring in these villages. I started after midday & went through all those on the Kidimah range & obtained both the Naga & the Munipuri names. Shot a very handsome but small Caprimulgus on the way down through the forest of the northern slope. |
