Major Romah Singh's threat to destroy the boundary pillars on the order of the Raja; clearing Khunho Mt. |

Great discussion this morning with the Major Romah Singh abt the boundary; he had threatened before Col Thompson to knock down all the boundary pillars & this he was requested to repeat before Capt Butler & myself but all he wd say [was] that it was his wish to do so ["Dil Ingla"] & that & the order proceeded from the Raja & being pressed on the matter he requested to be allowed to retire & talk it over with the rest of his companions & in an hour said he wanted a letter that wd protect him from not carrying out his Master's orders. I determined to go up & clear the peak above camp - Khunho - & started about 12.30 in light marching order with some 20 Nagas to clear the point. Got up abt 3.30 a pretty stiff pull, with two very bad places up rock faces. The usual kind of forest scenery. The Nagas set to work with their loud song in curious whoh! whohi! in time with the stroke of their daos & soon cleared the side of Rekromah but it was not sufficiently so to begin observation. A grand view from the top & all my friends seen from Japvo again shewing their tops. |
