Much colder last night, min 35.5o, little frost. Sending off a set of men early with their daos under Bhimnarain to clear & set up a mark on a hill ahead & across on the E side of the valley. I started soon after myself for the top of the one near "Nungshigung", very hazy & no far distant peaks to be seen but clear enough to get all the principal angles. Could follow Ogle all day plane tabling on the ridge to the west with aid of glass & could see that the jungle was considerably thinner on the hill he has got his tent near. Lovely day to the feel not too hot. Butterflies beginning to shew themselves. Finished work & built mark by 5 o/c. A single tree of Pinus Khasiana is growing in this village having been planted by the villagers but the climate does not suit it for it has grown a tall scraggy tree. Eeril winds with right angular bends about the valley & I noticed a good deal of swamp about the level ground. |

I noticed at the base of Nungshigung quartz lying about on the surface shewing that the veins of that mineral have here penetrated the sandstones but I did not see any in situ. Higher up quartz was no longer seen & the beds became thick bedded & very hard some being a greenish tint. Strike N-s, dip 60o West. |
