surveying on Nongmaiching |

The next day broke lovely & I started early for Nongmaiching, getting to the foot of the hill at about 9.30 when I stopt & had some bkfast & then went at the ascent of [blank] feet, it being [blank] above sea level. Fine views of valley as we got up the last 300 feet very steep. Found they had put the pole & bush in a high tree growing in a depression on the main spur on summit so that it was impossible to set up the Theod, so I had to clear a place for the station & managed by working like a fiend to get through all the angles by dark or rather until I could not see any more to read them & I made my descent by moonlight. Day most clear, everything to be desired for my triangulations work. Got angles to many far points south & if I can only nobble them again elsewhere shall have a very good shew of area triangulated. A low hill on spur below Nongmaiching has evidently been the site of an old fort from the leveled summit & remains of ditches & some fine pipul trees near. |
