text: Up early. Had rice distributed so as to empty bags which I took up to village for rice which I left Guzeram to collect and pay for having seen a fair start made. Came along road working. Passed through Mokokchung about 12. Not strongly defended. The usual ditches but only a stockade at village. Received in a friendly manner at this village. Recognised a man from Borudubia whom we saw last year. He was useful in getting eggs, fowls, rice for us. Left Memaram to collect and pay for them. Came on again working along road through Juju, which I was astonished to find a comparatively small village as from a distance it had the appearance of being very large. Found the camp about 3 miles from Juju in good spot in old jooms. Deputation from Khenza brought in fowls eggs, about 60 - 1 in 3 only good, and a couple of spear hafts. Juju sent in rice, eggs, fowls. Former very anxious for us to pay them a visit and promised to supply all our wants if we would go. Breakfast 3.30. After went out and worked till about 5.30. Came in to late dinner.
text: I was struck by the prevalence of red cloths in these last two villages. Dark blue being rather the exception. The red ones are similar to one I got last year. A red ground with narrow blue stripes, and a broad band down the centre generally of white on blue ground with various patterns of red hair worked in long diamonds.
