Started pretty early. Went up to Ponching. Waited about 2 hours there for rice. Got about 3 bags. Went on to Siphang. Fellows seemed to be tolerably friendly so went on with Ogle to paint below L 17 SEE zenith. Dismayed to find that the watershed extends a long way south and that it will be impossible to explore the whole of the valley of this branch of the Dikhu. Sent back for camp to come on and had tiffin. Camp arrived little after 2. Surprised to learn that they had nearly come to blows in the village after I left and it was only by compulsion that they got any rice. Went on down hill. Reached stream and tolerably good camping ground in the forest about 5. Heavy hailstorm came on soon after. Could not get messhouse built or fire lighted. Wood damp. |
