[3] 14th January, Friday. Left camp this morning at sunrise and having sent off my baggage straight to Sagolee proceeded myself to my visit the villages of Rehong and Kakee which lay slightly out of the direct route to the village above referred to. A distance of about 5 miles from Jankhe brought me to Rehong containing only 16 houses from whence I proceeded on to Kakhee a village containing 20 houses and from this I went on to Sagalee containing [] houses. These three villages are about the same distance apart so I calculate I have walked over 16 miles to-day and that too by a path that it is simply absurd to call a road and what with wading and struggling through wet jungle I feel I have done a precious hard days work and only trust I may not suffer for it hereafter for from my late experience of Samoogooting fever I know the fevers acquired in these jungles are not to be trifled with and I am sorry to say one of my constables and a servant have knocked up already from the exposure. |
