18th January, Tuesday. Left camp this morning by sunrise and following up the bed of the Borpoongjan until we had passed both the Horroo and Borpoongs we struck off to the north and crossing the Toorapoongjan a stiff ascent brought us to the Naga village of Karenka. |

The wading through cold water for hours together has tried us all very much to-day and I fear some of us will suffer for it and I am only thankful we have met with no rain to add to our miseries. |

I learned to-day that the clearance through the Forest which we had mistaken for a new road yesterday was the boundary (cut by one for a Mouzadar on the Nowgong side) supposed to divide the Naga Hills from Nowgong which is good proof, if none other were wanting of the extraordinary vagueness of the present boundary between the two district. |
