text: 26th March, Saturday. Today I only succeeded in reaching Jalookehmah for the rain came down in such endless torrents I was only too glad to get under shelter as soon as possible. The road was pretty fair today and distance about 4 miles. The village of Jalookemah contains 93 houses. The chiefs came to see me as usual with fowls and rice and appeared anxious to be taken under our protection declaring that next year they intend voluntarily to collect revenue and present it to me at Samagaoting which I am very sure they won't unless ordered to.
