text: 5th December, Monday. Marched into Hurreeojan.
text: 6th December, Tuesday. My servants are so much knocked up I thought it best to give them a halt today and I think the elephant will be all the better for a halt too. The leeches are excessively bad this year. Last night I counted no less than eleven bites on my right leg alone and this although I wore thick socks and gaiters so I am afraid my men must have suffered very much indeed with their bare legs.
text: 7th December, Wednesday. Leaving my servants and baggage to come on slowly tomorrow, I rode straight into Samaguting today 34 miles.
