15th March, Wednesday. Wishing to explore the boundary between Nowgong and the Naga Hills, I moved camp today into Doboka. Our route lay along the left bank of the Jammuna and was over a comparatively fair road - distance about 9 miles. Having arrived here about 11 a.m. I breakfasted sharp and rode out to try and make out the direction taken by the boundary line, but found it was hopeless to attempt it, for in the first place the jungle was so thick it was impossible to get through it and next the several Mauzadars seemed to hold very different opinions as to what was the boundary, and as the boundary defined in the Government Gazette is capable of half a dozen different interpretations, I thought it better to leave the matter alone at least until I had seen the Deputy Commissioner of Nowgong on the subject. |
