24th February, Sunday. Moved camp to-day into Sepamah - distance about 11 miles. The last mile and a half a terribly stiff ascent almost perpendicular. I am thankful to say we are now on the first of the high ranges and can look down upon Samaguting so surrounded with its dense unhealthy mists that it is only with some little difficulty we can make out its dim outline against the sky where as up here all is bright and clear and the cold bracing atmosphere has already begun to give us all new life again. I have only just turned in from a blazing camp fire round which we were all noticing how different the climate was here to that we have left behind us, and not withstanding all the hardships we have to encounter here, marching in a country without roads where rice and fowl is the only diet procurable, and where it is often difficult to get even that, I don't think there is one among us all who will not be sorry to see Samaguting again. |

I am sorry to say I received news this afternoon that Puphitzuma clan of Mozemah have again been out on a foray and have just murdered 4 of the Nerhamah men. One of my constables whom I had deputed to Muzemah met the war party as they were returning and they boastingly held up the head of one of the men they had killed and said "See what men we are". |
