23rd February, Friday. Out all day with the coolies. The path has now been cut to the foot of the Sitekemah hill and from thence across a low range on to the banks of the Khuki along which it has also been cut for about 3 miles, so we have now got a fair path half way to Sepamah and I am only sorry the state of my funds will not allow me to complete it this season. |

A party of some 10 or 12 Nagas came in this morning from Chichama and presenting me with a spear said they hoped I would be friendly to them or to use their own words "that they were going to be my children", a message I was not at all sorry to receive as we have never yet had any communication with the men of Chichama and it is one of the villages I hope to go and visit in a day or two. |
