31st March, Sunday. Marched into Tesephemah, a very small village containing only 35 houses. The distance was about 16 miles and the road quite as bad if not worse than that we came over yesterday, and the leeches on it quite as attentive. By the way, I wish I could discover some way of keeping off these pests for they are really one of the most serious evils we meet in marching through these jungles. I have every plans I could think of but in vain. Breeches and boots keep them out to a certain extent but then they are not the most comfortable attire in which to walk long distances in. |

1st April, Monday. Returned to Samaguting - distance about 6 miles over a road very similar to that we have had for the last two days. |
