text: 30th November. Marched into Pephemah. The road is in a terrible state of jungle and in many parts we positively had to push our way through the long grass by sheer force. The Penmahs have just been having a long chat with me warning me not to enter Menzemah as they have heard that the "Dekkas" have determined upon polishing me off and I forgot to mention that yesterday Head Constable Bhyoisaloo who was in command of my advanced guard reported that they had suddenly come upon 2 Nagas dressed in warpaint who immediately on seeing my constables at once made off into the jungle so I have taken care to have my camp pitched on a good commanding position in the centre of the village and have taken every precaution I can to ensure the safety of my small party and repulse any attack should one be made.
