31st December. Moved camp today to a spot close to the sources of the Zallo. The latter portion of our march led up a picturesque gorge with high mountains on either side. |

It has been very cold during the last two days at Paplongmai where I found ice about 72 [sic] inches thick on my "Chilamchi" inside the tent, and it is bitterly cold again here tonight and I fancy we shall have the ice thicker than ever, indeed I should not be surprised if we had a fall of snow ere long. |
