2nd January. Having heard last night that 2 of the 3 muskets stolen some time ago from Samaguting had been lately sold to the Samemah clan of Khonomah, I ordered Vazile (the Dobasha) to stay behind this morning and enquire into the matter and if true, to order Dhopule and Viponin, the Chief of that clan, to bring the muskets into me at Samaguting. (Note: Both these muskets have been brought in since my return to Headquarters and I hope soon to arrest the men who stole them. J.R. 4th May 1973). [25] After breakfast we moved camp to a spot about 172 miles to the east of Jotsomah. We had originally intended to have encamped at Kohimah but about a mile and a half on this side of Jotsomah I most unfortunately managed to miss my footing and sprained my ankle so severely that for some time I could scarcely bear to put my foot to the ground and so was eventually compelled to halt within a few hundred yards of where I had fallen. I applied cold water and arnica (which I had fortunately brought with me) at once and have thus kept down the inflammation to some extent, however my ankle feels very stiff and painful just now and I am rather afraid I shall have to rig up a dooli tomorrow. |
