25th January. I am sorry to have to record that Colonel Thomson's escort and coolies refused to accompany him back with us to Kazakenomah this morning and not only this but one of the Rajah's Subadars came up with an impertinent message to the effect that the Major declined to hold himself responsible for anything left behind at Sikhami as the escort were to return at once to Manipur. This of course caused us to change our plans and we determined to take something on with us into Kazakenomah where we are in British Territory. So having succeeded after some difficulty in procuring Colonel Thomson 13 Naga coolies from the neighbouring village, we moved camp back once more into Khezakenomah, on reaching which I turned into bed with a bad fever which has been threatening to come on for the last day or two. |
