6th February. We moved camp today to the terraces of the banks of the Barak below Ketsumi having passed through the village of Sukhimai enroute. At Sukhimai the villagers insisted upon making us all liquor up as we passed through and happening to notice that their village had been very lately and rather strongly fortified with numerous Trous Deloup and Pangles, I asked them who it was they feared and was told that it was the Sopvomah (or Mao) men with whom they had a long standing feud, so it would appear that even here, where I am informed it is only five days short marches into the capital of Manipur, the Maharajah is unable to keep the peace. |
