5th February. We had a long march today and moved camp to Dinmai which we did not reach until after dark. However it was fortunately a clear moon light night the Nagas most hospitably came out to us with no end of mats, bamboos etc., and so we very soon contrived to have all our party comfortably housed. |

This evening I learnt casually from Rakhu Housha of Salim who is accompanying me that in the year of the great earthquake (1868 and 69) he with other Kukies had accompanied a Manipuri Force which had then destroyed Aphomai Unromai and other villages in their neighbourhood for refusing to acknowledge the Manipuri Raj. This pretty clearly proves that up to the date of the boundary question being first mooted the Manipuries had no influence whatever across the watershed but that immediately after and ever since they have been endeavouring to do their best to push on and acquire territory in every direction that it was possible for them to do so. |
