text: 15th February. Leaving Austin and Ogle to come on quietly I rode on ahead and got into Manipur this morning at ll a.m. in time for breakfast. In the course of my ride, on which led over a capital road which is now being repaired in parts, I noticed that the valley was dotted over with numerous villages on either side. Austin and Ogle arrived late in the day and I was glad to learn the former had succeeded in getting in the position of the capital of Manipur on to his plane table.
text: In the evening I was visited by my old acquaintance Tongal Major who looked as young as ever and came in with some rice, fowls, vegetables, etc., which he informed me he had been directed to present to me with the salams of the Rajah.
