This was one of the most warlike and troublesome of the Naga tribes, till, after years of raids on villages of the British pale and retaliatory or conciliatory expeditions into their country, the Naga hill district was established, and a station for a Deputy Commissioner with an armed Police force formed at Samaguting on the right bank of the Dhansiri River. The Angami Hills lie between that river and the Doyang and northern boundary of Manipur. The illustration represents an Angami from the Manipur side of the valley. |
