26. The respective political jurisdiction of the Deputy-Commissioners of the Sibsagar and Naga Hills districts over the Nagas on their borders was defined during the year. The object of the change was to transfer the Ao or Hatigoria tribe to the control of the Deputy-Commissioner of the Naga Hills, who has greater facilities of access to their country, and possesses in the strong body of Frontier Police stationed at Kohima the means of dealing more promptly and effectively with turbulent villages than the Deputy-Commissioner of Sibsagar can. |

The area placed under the control of the Deputy-Commissioner, Naga Hills, by these orders is thus described: The portion of the hills lying west of the Dikhu Zela or Nanga from its entry into the plains above the Bihubor police frontier outpost up to the Sema village of Chesami, thence along the southern spur of the ridge to the confluence of the Tizu and Thezir rivers south of Khezami and thence up the Lanier river to the Manipur frontier, which it follows round south-westwards and westwards to Kopamedza, on the existing frontier of the Naga Hills district. |

Full instructions were given, with the sanction of the Government of India, to both these officers as to the policy to be followed by them in dealing with intertribal disputes between transfrontier tribes. |
