In connection with the above affair, it was discovered that Kanchang and Naogaon were accustomed to pay tribute to Namsang and also to the trans-Dikhu village of Jaktong and Tablang. This was a state of affairs liable to produce complications, and Mr. McCabe therefore took steps to obtain a renunciation of their claims from all these villages. Namsang voluntarily resigned its claims, but a visit had to be paid to Jaktong and Tablang before they would negotiate on the subject. Their chiefs also renounced all claims to tribute on the left bank of the Dikhu but this promise, as was shown later in the year, was an insincere one, and was not acted up to on the part of Tablang. |
