The second murder took place on the 17th November 1892 when two Nagas belonging to Jaktung chang were shot dead in some jungle near the Sontak grant in mauza Dhopabar, thana Sonari. The police at first reported that the murders had been committed by men of Borgong chang, but it was afterwards ascertained that the murderers belonged to Failung chang. The Failung chief was called upon to give them up and on the 26th March 1893 he sent down two men, Pojang and Yamang, who stated that they had gone with a party of 20 men to make a raid on Khongan chang with which their chang was at feud, and that meeting two Jaktung Nagas on the way, they killed them, believing them to be Khongan men. The two men are now in custody and the inquiry into the case is still proceeding. |
