text: The large increase in the number of coolies impressed during the past two years is due to the construction of the cart road from Nichuguard to Kohima and Manipur. As in the previous year, the Public Works Department was supplied with a great bulk of impressed labour. The above figures only include coolies called in under orders from headquarters. The Deputy Commissioner expects that there will be a great decrease in the number of impressed coolies in the next year.
