In 1898, 792 licenses were renewed, 10 remained unrenewed at the close of the year, 13 were cancelled for various reasons, and 313 were transferred to other districts, owing principally to the transfer of the plains portions of the district to the Nowgong and Sibsagar districts. Eighteen of the 22 new licenses taken out were issued to plains people.
