text: 67. By Notifications Nos.5646 and 5647, dated the 9th December 1898, the tract of country comprising the Rengma and Mikir Hills and the plains land in their vicinity was removed from the Naga Hills district and added partly to the district of Nowgong and partly to the Golaghat subdivision of the Sibsagar district. This step was taken in view of the extension of the Assam Bengal Railway into the plains land bordering on the Rengma and Mikir Hills and the difficulty in exercising efficient control over the large railway camps and extensive gangs of coolies from so comparatively inaccessible a headquarters as Kohima.
