16. The chief event of the year in the trans-Dikhu country was the expedition to Mozungjami in January last. Only two of the four khels which compose the village had offended, but as all four combined and abandoned the village on the approach of the punitive force, no discrimination in treatment was possible. The force halted in Mozungjami for eight days, and, besides killing one or two Mozungs, did great damage to property. The khels have since come in the Mokokchang and made their peace, but the Pelasi and Chongpo khels against whom the expedition was directed, have not yet submitted. Towards the end of March the trans-Dikhu village of Kamahu was raided by a large party from Tablung and other villages. The survivors from Kamahu fled to Yazim, with which village they were on friendly terms, by the Yazim people turned out and butchered the fugitives, who were mostly women and children. Three women and a child who had succeeded in crossing the Dikhu and gaining the shelter of British territory, were murdered by a small party from Yazim. Five of the murdered have been given up by Yazim. |
