The open porch doorways led into the central hall, which in the case of the Thepong morung was 33 feet long. The floor was covered by stamping boards, which resounded under the feet of dancers at nocturnal feasts. To both sides of the hall lay the sleeping compartments, partitioned off with bamboo matting. In most morungs these small rooms, which contained a number of bamboo bunks, were pitch dark. There was no regulation of roommates for either clan or age-group members, but usually boys of the same age occupied the same compartment. |
