text: The carving and dragging in of a new gong was a great event in the life of a Konyak village and one that was even rarer than the rebuilding of a morung. Unless a gong perished by fire, it would last for many decades, and not every generation of morung members had the opportunity of participating in the elaborate ritual accompanying the manufacture of a new instrument.
