initial preparation of log-gong in forest |
text: |
The tree chosen for a gong was ceremonially felled with the cooperation of members of another morung, who render their services on a reciprocal basis. After the gong had been roughly shaped in the forest, a process which was accompanied by the sacrifice of a pig, all the people of the morung and ward for which the gong was intended dressed themselves in ceremonial attire and gathered round the half-finished gong. |
