text: On the days following this festival all the villagers went to their fields and began cutting the rice. This was done with small sickles and the men and women of a family worked side by side. The sheaves were carried into the field hut, where a large mat was spread out. On this the men trod out the grain with their feet. The rice was then collected and taken to the granaries on the day it was reaped.
