cultivation of land by morungs |
text: |
Apart from the cultivation of individually owned fields, there was also some communal utilization of land. A morung, which usually owned only a few strips of jungle, would rent a sizable field and cultivate it through the joint efforts of its members, with the intention of using the yield for the celebration of morung feasts. Not only the young men of the morung but also their sisters would cooperate in tilling such a field. |
