In villages with powerful chiefs all villagers joined in the cultivation of the chief's land, and even comparatively insignificant chiefs, such as the Ang of Wakching, were given free help with their agricultural work. Such obligations toward chiefs, however, will be discussed in the context of the relations between chiefs and commoners.
